Rabbits have been a common choice for pets for ages. They seem to tick all the boxes. They’re cute, appeal to people of all ages, are small, easy to look after, and are very social animals. But what is it that makes rabbits stick out from other choices of pet? This top nine list should help convince you that rabbits are indeed the best pets there are.

  1. They live a long time

Unlike some smaller pets, rabbits live a fairly long time, normally 10-12 years. This means you won’t have the horrible instance of having to explain to your children that their beloved pet has passed away. Smaller fluffy pets like hamsters and mice only live for a few years at most, so it can be fairly traumatic for children.

  1. Rabbits are quiet

This makes rabbits a perfect pet for if you live in an apartment of built up area. Dogs and even cats can be incredibly loud and disruptive and might try your neighbours’ patience. By owning a rabbit, you can get all the benefits of having a cute fluffy pet, without having to worry about annoying those around you. It’s also great for if your rabbit decides it’s a bit of a night owl and wants to stay up all night because they won’t keep you awake in the process.

  1. Rabbits need a lot less space than other pets

Rabbits don’t need much space to live in happily. As long as they get a couple of hours exercise running around outside, or in a bunny-safe room or house, they’ll be perfectly happy in a relatively small Rabbit Hutch that you can purchase online.

This means rabbits are great for you if you live in a small apartment. The living space for a rabbit needs to be large enough for them to stretch out in and allow room for a litter pan in one corner, and a feeding station in the other.

  1. Rabbits are easy to train

Bunnies can be trained to use a litterbox, just like a cat! This means you can have them running around the house without fear of ruining your carpet. This can be done quite simply by using the method of positive reinforcement. This means repeatedly rewarding your bunny when they perform the right behaviours.

As well as being trained to use a litterbox, you can also train your rabbit to do tricks and run through obstacle courses. The possibilities really just depend on your imagination and patience!

  1. Bunnies are Crepuscular

So, this means that a Rabbits natural schedule is to be more active in the early morning and in the evenings, perfect for all of you out there who have a full-time 9-5 job.

Rabbits will generally be very active when you are up getting ready for work but they like to relax throughout the day. Then when you come back from work they will be waiting for you to have a lovely evening together.

I guess the only downside to that is you won’t be getting a lie in at the weekend!

  1. Rabbits have great personalities and form a strong bond with their owners

Rabbits are just like Cats & Dogs, they all have completely different personalities. Some may be very interactive and follow you around all morning & evening just waiting for their dinner or a little bit of affection. Others may just like to keep to themselves and wait for food to be served.

It’s safe to say that most will come to love & respond to their owners through voice and sight.

  1. Rabbits are generally rather clean animals

Contrary to what you may have heard Rabbits are a very proud and clean pet. You will never need to bathe your Rabbit (putting them in water may give them a scare).

This is since like Cats they self-groom and are very good at this. They also have pride in their home, they will make sure that they only use a specific place to use as their “toilet” inside their hutch. (unless you train them to use a litter box as mentioned earlier).

  1. Rabbits can come in all shapes and sizes, and there are loads of them available

Unfortunately, lots of Rabbits are given into animal shelters, the only two animals who are given away more are Cats and Dogs. This means that there are loads to choose from and as there are over 50 recognised breeds. So, you will be able to choose a Rabbit that suits your personality while also providing the Rabbit with a new and better home.

  1. Rabbits are just too cute!

Seriously, just look at them! They’re just so fluffy! Rabbits come in many different shapes, sizes and colours. Some are fluffier than others. Some are bigger than others. With such variety, you’re bound to find one you will fall in love with.

Rabbits manage to make pretty much anything they do look cute. The way they hop around is adorable, and so is the way they eat their food! So, if we’ve managed to convince you, get down to your local pet store now and take one of those fluffy critters home!
