5 Great Date Hairstyles For Hot Summer Nights

If you’ve got a big date this weekend you might be wondering what to do with your hair. As well as picking out the perfect outfit to WOW, with shoes and accessories your hair is your crowning glory so it should always make a statement. You could choose to wear it as you normally do, perhaps loose or up in a cute, girly ponytail but then again, you might want to ooze sex appeal and go for something guaranteed to get him hot under the collar!

The first thing you need to think about is what you’re wearing – don’t choose your hairstyle before your clothes but do plan ahead because a new hairstyle might take a little practice. You wouldn’t want to be going on a jeans and t-shirt date with a sophisticated chignon and likewise, a smart cocktail dress or a trip to the races wouldn’t warrant festival braids. Try and work out where you’re going and then decide on clothes followed by hair and make-up.

If you aren’t sure where you’re going, err on the side of caution and choose a hairstyle which would work for any event. There are other things to think about, equally, if you’re planning on your date running his fingers through your hair – don’t pile on the hairspray and make sure you don’t have any bobby pins stabbing him in the hand! As well as thinking about your clothes, accessories and make-up think about your face shape to make sure the style you choose works for you.

1. Versatile Pony Tail

A pony tail can be very girly and very sexy too. Using colourful and pretty hair bows and clips can transform a pony tail from day to night. For a sexier twist, lift out some hair at the front of your head and add some extra height, then clip and spray it into place before sweeping up the rest of your hair into a ponytail at the back. A low pony tail can be very chic. Secure it at the nape of your neck and if your hair is very long you could add some sexy waves using a curling wand. While talking about curls and waves, tong or curl your hair all over your head and fix in a sassy, sexy ponytail high up or in the middle of the back of your head – there’s nothing cuter than a head of bubbly curls for a summer’s night date.

2. Hot Summer Hair

For hot and humid nights you’ll want to wear your hair up. If it’s long enough, why not braid it? Either pile your hair up into a messy pony tail and with the remaining hair, plait it into three sections then plait them together and wind them round the top of the ponytail, securing with bobby pins. Or wind each braid around the top of your ponytail in reverse directions and fix with bobby pins.

3. Big Waves

This is best for shoulder length or longer hair. Give yourself big Hollywood hair using a hair styling brush or a round straightener and curler. Alternatively, use rollers as you dry off your hair and secure each with hair pins. Use a little hairspray once all the rollers are in place and leave for as long as you can before you remove each roller. Either separate with your fingers or use a wide tooth comb. Finish off with a little Argan oil or serum for true film star glamour.

If you prefer to use a curling wand or tongs, use a heat protecting spray and dry hair off first either naturally or with a hair dryer. Then section your hair out using clips. Starting with the back of your head, unwind the first section and wind it back over your heated tong/wand (always use the right heat setting so as not to burn your hair). Wind hair up the tong or wand and hold for a few seconds using a styling glove to protect your hand. Release the curl and repeat over the whole of your head. Finish with a little serum and hairspray to keep it in place.

4. Relaxed Waves

Of course, there’s nothing more summery and feminine than tousled beachy waves and there are so many ways to achieve these. You could try using a curling wand and loosely winding hair along the barrel or if you have hours to kill during the day, wash hair and leave it damp, braid hair in mid-size braids across the whole of your head and leave it in place all day. When it’s time to get ready for your date, un-braid each section and separate with fingers, add a little serum to give some gloss and pin up a few curls at the side, using a pretty barrette to fix it into place.

5. High Chignon

The ultimate in sophistication has to be a top knot bun. For this, you do need long hair but short haired girls don’t think this is out of your reach. A clip in ponytail will achieve exactly the same result, just buy something in the right hair colour to match your own and get a box of bobby pins. Sweep clean hair into a high ponytail and use a donut ring to get the look you want.

Fix the donut ring over the ponytail and pull hair through. Using your hands, spread your hair around the circumference of the donut ring, fix it down with a second hair band. Then use your fingers to tuck excess hair behind the donut, securing with bobby pins. Alternatively secure your bun winding hair around the top of the ponytail, securing with bobby pins. For a slightly messier look, pull some of the hair out of the bun and around the hairline. Finish with a glittery hair slide or romantic flowers.
